Xicohtñencatl, Tlaxcala
In Nahuatl, Papalotla means "place of butterflies." It derives its name: stick, short forpapalotl, which means butterfly, and the locative suffix tla abundance, denotingplace.
Festivals, Music, Dance and Traditions
In the State of Tlaxcala dances and traditional folk music, is associated primarilywith pagan religious holidays and festivities of the carnival. Both are part ofcommunity identity and history of Tlaxcala people.
The music and dances are inherited from one generation to another either asdancer or as a performer, but those directly involved are really small groups of people, a large proportion of the population of each community traditionallyparticipates as a spectator or incidentally in the organization and preparation of the festivities.
Located in the central Mexican plateau 2,200 meters above sea level, the municipality of Papalotla of Xicohténcatl is located in a geographic coordinate axisbetween 19 degrees 12 minutes north latitude and 98 degrees 11 minutes west longitude. Located south of the state of Tlaxcala, the municipality of Papalotla of Xicohténcatl borders north with the municipalities of Acuamanala of Miguel Hidalgo,Jose Maria Morelos Mazatacochco and Tenancingo, and the state of Puebla, on the west with the state of Puebla and municipalities of Santa Catarina and AyometlaXicohtzinco.http://www.papalotla.gob.mx/
