Bordered on the north by Coahuila, on the northwest by Durango, Nayarit on the west, east to San Luis Potosi and south by Aguascalientes and Jalisco. The capital is the city of Zacatecas. It has 58 municipalities and its main economic activities are mining, agriculture and tourism. The state is known for its large deposits of silver and other minerals, its colonial architecture and its importance during the Mexican Revolution. The current governor is Miguel Alonso Reyes, the PRI.

The state of Zacatecas is divided into 58 municipalities.  The capital of the same name which holds the titles of Very Noble and Loyal City of Zacatecas. Granted by King Philip II of Spain on June 20, 1588 in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Madrid,  and it was granted the coat of arms, emblem, which was included in the Cerro de labuffa. While its largest city is Fresno.
