Frontera Corozal is a community in the county (municipality) of Ocosingo, in the Mexican state of Chiapas. It is situated on the banks of the Usumacinta River, and serves as a boundary river border crossing point to Guatemala, which occupies the territory on the eastern bank of river.
Frontera Corozal also serves as an access point to several archaeological sites near the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, and Yaxchilan. In the 2005 census the city had a population of 4,080 inhabitants.
Escudo Jaguar Ecotourism Center is located in Frontera Corozal, within the area of the Lacandon jungle, right on the border with Guatemala. The center provides all necessary services to all passengers who want to meet and interact with the descendants of the Mayan culture, and also to observe the fauna and flora of Chiapas. The Centre has huts for accommodation, restaurant and transportation services to several interesting sites nearby, and in Guatemala.
The Shield Jaguar location allows to visit the archaeological sites of Palenque (two hours), Yaxchilan (accessible by boat from the center, 25 minutes), Bonampak (accessible by car from the center, 45 minutes), and Tikal in Guatemala. There are many natural attractions in protected areas of the Lacandon Jungle, where you can observe the flora and fauna of Chiapas (which can be visited on foot or by boat). Within an hour of the Center are the beautiful waterfalls Las Golondrinas.
