Socoltenango means "City of the pitchers fortified" the Nahuatl sotsokoli, pitcherand tenamko, fortified town.
Located in the Central Depression, presenting a half-plane relief mostly. Its geographical coordinates are 16 ° 15 'N and 91 º 59' W.
Socoltenango Township (in the State of Chiapas). It has 4674 inhabitants.Socoltenango is at 860 meters.
The name of this town means "fortified population of the pitchers." Bordered on the north by the municipalities of Las Rosas and Comitan, east Tzimol Township, southeast of Chicomuselo in the south with La Concordia and the West with that ofVenustiano Carranza. It has an area of 775 km ².
Its main attraction is the Church Copanahuastla Dominica. Copana-huastla isNahuatl name meaning "Population Snakes". The attraction is named after a villagepre-Hispanic and colonial seventeenth century populated by ethnic Tzotzil andtzentales who was seated in what is now the La Candelaria in the municipality ofSocoltenango, archaeological remains of the mill ranch and foundation. As well asecotourism center has "The Sabinal" created to visit the famous series of waterfallsof the Rio San Vicente (The Chiflon)
