Cuauhtinchan archaeological area belongs to the Postclassic period. It is remarkable building called Cuauhcalli, which means "House of the Sun 'or' House of the Eagles'. It is one of the few buildings in the world monolithic, ie a single stone carving, and only in America. In pre-Hispanic times, here was located the most important ceremonial center. At its peak, ordered the Aztec warriors, after rising 13 levels and 354 steps.At the summit there is a semicircular altar and various representations of eagles and jaguars, related to the two types of warriors: Warriors eagle and jaguar warriors. In addition there are representations of gods, warriors, snakes and a huehuetl, which is a pre-Hispanic musical instrument, like a drum.

This building dates from 1501, called 9 calli by the Aztecs, when the emperor ordered the construction Ahuízotl ceremonial buildings that now make up the archaeological zone. The structure is incomplete, because its construction was interrupted by the arrival of Spanish conquistadors.
