Currently, Celaya comprises just over 553 square kilometers and is bordered to the north by the municipality of Comonfort, the south by Tarimoro, east with those of the Great and Apaseo Apaseo Alto, on the west by Cortazar and Villagrán and to the northwest of Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas. The great development of this city has made it the third most populous municipality in the state of Guanajuato (despite their small size) covering about 10% of the total state population with 416 000 inhabitants (II Count Population and Housing 2005). Also, this breakthrough, which currently makes the city of Celaya to offer most of its inhabitants utilities (electricity, water, sewer) to reach coverage rates above 90%.
As expected, the progress that has occurred in this county is based on its strong economic activities, which is worth noting that agriculture is the basis of the local economy being the maize, sorghum, alfalfa, oats, beans, garlic, onion, peanut, tomato and vegetables the main crop and strong export orientation. On the other hand, industry is very important to have establishments producing caramel and dairy, meats and packing vegetables, packaging and water purification and pasteurization of milk, manufacturing of deodorants, flavors, insecticides, food animals, furniture and appliances, and construction of agricultural implements and machinery, among many others. The companies are located mainly on the roads Celaya-Salamanca, Celaya-Queretaro, Celaya-San Miguel de Allende, which is the most important settlement for the location of the industrial city
