Escarcega is a city of the Mexican state of Campeche, located in the center of the state. It is an important hub of communications, both road and rail. Its origin was as a railway station and camp operating chicle and logwood. It is the head of the Municipality of Escárcega.

Escárcega Township is geographically located between latitude 18 ° 51 'and 18 ° 09' north latitude and parallels 90 ° 20 'and 91 º 33' longitude west of Greenwich.
It is bordered on the north by the municipality of Champoton, east with the municipality of Calakmul, south to the town of Candelaria, on the southwest margin of the river Chumpa right, west to the territory corresponding to the municipality of Carmen and to the northwest Sabancuy municipal section. Escárcega Township has a height of 60 meters above sea level.
