Tecoripa church was founded in 1619 by Jesuit missionaries and Martin BurgensioOliñano Francisco. At that time the town was home to 2.750 Pima Indians. Today thetemple is kept in good condition and proudly preserved their bells, whose sound isadmired by friends and strangers. For over two centuries, the bell was kept at the footof the church, but was recently elevated to small domes in order to better conserve, as it is one of the few elements that remain from those cast in fine metal relics in thevillage. Tecoripa it as the patron saint San Francisco de Borja, whose image is venerated in procession every October 10, and each August 15 reminds the VirgenDolorosa.
