The archaeological site of Paquimé is located approximately 350 km northwest of the city of Chihuahua, in Chihuahua, Mexico and half a kilometer from the town of Casas Grandes.

This archaeological site was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998.

It was a pre-Hispanic settlement in the northwest influencing the Sierra Madre Occidental, the majority of western Chihuahua and some areas of the states of Sonora, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Researchers estimate that the population probably grew to some 3500 people, but they know their language and ethnic affiliation.

Getting there

Take Highway 16 from Ciudad Juarez to Ciudad Cuauhtemoc and follow Route 23 to get to Nuevo Casas Grandes, near there find the old Casas Grandes that offers all the services and where the archaeological site.
