Creel was established as a railway station in 1907, this village has a population of about 6500 people, has served as a commercial center for a large and remote area.The forest and tourism are important activities. More than 7,700 feet (2386m), Creel is the center of Tarahumara land.

Creel is a town in the Sierra Tarahumara (part of the Sierra Madre Occidental), the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is the second largest city (after San Juanito) in the municipality of Bocoyna. It lies about 175 kilometers southwest of the state capital, Chihuahua, Chih. In the 2005 census had a population of 5,338 inhabitants.

Near Creel, Divisadero is perhaps best known for top of the "Three Gorges" of the Copper Canyon and Basaseachic Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Mexico. Creel was historically a logging town, although tourism has become the main source of employment in the past 20 years. There are many hotels, restaurants and a series of trips down the guns and all the surrounding area.

Transport The Chihuahua al Pacifico (Chepe) railroad extends from the city of Chihuahua to Los Mochis with four passenger trains arrive every day - two for each direction. There is also bus service to Chihuahua, as well as regular service to the small town of Batopilas, a trip that takes about five hours each way.
