chacahua lagoons

located on the southern coast of Mexico just minutes away from Rio Grande, Oaxaca.Bathed by the cool sea breezes and tropical sunshine, Chacahua is the hidden jewel of Oaxaca. If you spent a few days here, would probably agree that this is heaven on earth. Come and enjoy this paradise, but please leave as nice as you found. This is Chacahua and the five surrounding lakes as seen from the air.
Las Lagunas de Chacahua, as a protected nature reserve, has become a major research center and tourist attraction. Visitors also have the opportunity to visit and explore the beaches at beautiful scenery and attractions: Cerro Hermoso and Chacahua.
Often erroneously called * * Chacagua, Chacahua was once a sleepy village with a few fisherman and their families. Usually subsisted on fish and crops grown. Today the people of Chacahua is a beautiful rustic town attracting adventurers, naturalists, hikers and lovers of water sports.

Getting There:
By car
From Puerto Escondido, west on highway 200 and take the detour to Zapotalito community. Chacahua community is located in the western part of the national park.
Mexico City, follow the Mexico-Puebla-Orizaba Highway diversion Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway. Follow this road to the toll booth Coixtlahuaca and from there drive in the direction of Santiago Tejupam. On arrival at highway 190, turn left to reach the Federal Highway 125 (in the community of Yacudaa). Drive through Teposcolula Putla Tlaxiaco and Guerrero, and continue on U.S. Highway 200 towards Pinotepa -National Puerto Escondido. De drive west of Puerto Escondido along highway 200 and take the detour to El Zapotalito, which is the entrance and access to the park.
From Chiapas and Central America can be reached via highway 190 coming from Tuxtla Gutierrez, or through highway 200 toll road that goes from Tapachula to Arriaga, follow the freeway, through Chahuites and connect to the highway 190 in Tapanatepec. From there, continue to Salina Cruz, and before reaching the center of this city, take the road towards the highway 200 Salina Cruz, Puerto Escondido National Pintepa. De drive west of Puerto Escondido along highway 200 and take the detour to El Zapotalito, which is the entrance and access to the park.
