The village of Zipolite is located 3 km west of Puerto Angel and sits along its 2.5 km of beach (map)
You can get to Puerto Angel comfortably on foot, by taxi, collectively or in passing. (see possibilities of transport)
Restaurants of all types and housing opportunities are found throughout the beach, most of them are very simple.
Zipolite, which means Zapotec Muertos Beach is open ocean swell of a very strong and dangerous currents.
Any native can tell stories of drowned in those waters. Also, some athletes who were considered good swimmers have left their lives here. It is best to swim where lifeguards and volunteers standing guard as a precaution have placed colored flags. The green color means that you can swim no problem. Yellow means caution, and is only for good swimmers. Red is forbidden to swim.
They have also posted signs in dangerous areas.
Zipolite became famous in the '70s when entire colonies of hippies came to enjoy this beach was the only nude beach in Mexico. And also because of its poor oversight by the authorities was very easy access to drugs.
Today can still be heard from some speakers of the restaurants the sounds of The Doors, Bob Marley, Santana, Led Zeppelin and others. I tear past midnight the two clubs (Ramadas or palapas) Zipolipas music and making mixed. While at the beach in front of the fires we hear the bongos and go past the chuvis up at dawn. In tourist season is a little more quiet, if at all on weekends is a little more movement.
