A 10 km west of Puerto Angel and 1 km from San Agustinillo Mazunte is located. (see map)
This town is bigger than San Agustinillo and a simple but very interesting architecture. Here is constructed with natural materials and the region.
Several restaurants are all along the main beach and small bay at the end of this same, known as the Family Beach. A little more secluded beach lies The Bermejito. To get there you have to grab the lane to the Family Beach and 50 meters before getting there, turn right. In this beach there is still no tourism infrastructure. Here the surf is very strong.
In high season the main beaches are guarded by lifeguards.
Mazunte which in Nahuatl means "I ask you please to lay eggs" is actually known by the Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga, which is responsible for the preservation of various species of fish and sea turtles. In aquariums have some endangered species.
Environmentalists around the world open champagne in 1990. Finally, a presidential decree ending the hunting of the turtle on the Pacific coast. While congratulations are happening, a small village in Oaxaca cry of the new law. What was a victory for environmentalists, became an economic disaster for the 544 inhabitants of Mazunte.
90% of the population lived turtle and marketing, but suddenly found themselves without work, the situation became critical.
